Finding Your Authentic Self: What If You Don't Know Who You Are?
We hear a lot about being authentic, but what if you're sitting there thinking, "I don’t even know who I am or what I want!" How are you supposed to be true to yourself when you’re still trying to figure that out?
First of all, take a deep breath. Seriously, it's okay. Feeling unsure about your identity or what you really want is totally normal, especially in a world that’s constantly telling us who we should be. Authenticity isn’t about having it all together—it’s about being real with yourself, right where you are.
And believe me, I’ve been there. Not too long ago, I had no idea who I was or what I wanted either. I’d spent so much time putting others first and living up to everyone else’s expectations that I lost sight of my own. But then I decided to take a step back and really dig into who I am. It wasn’t easy—there were a lot of ups and downs—but slowly, I started to reconnect with the real me.
So, if you’re feeling a bit lost, start small. Pay attention to what lights you up, what drains you, and where you feel most like yourself. These little clues are like breadcrumbs leading you back to who you truly are.
And here’s the thing: authenticity isn’t about being perfect or having all the answers. It’s about showing up as you are, questions, uncertainties, and all. It’s okay to say, "I’m still figuring things out." That’s real, and that’s where the magic happens.
As you go through this process, be kind to yourself. Give yourself the space to explore, try new things, and change your mind. Your authentic self will reveal itself when you’re ready.
